I remember that day so clearly! I woke
up at about 8am with my daughter
and I knew that it was " the day ". I was
having pretty regular
contractions about every 15 min so I knew
that there was no rush quite
yet. My day went on as normal, me and my
daughter went to the park, went
for lunch and spent the day drawing sidewalk
pictures.
I had been put on bed rest(which I
didn't really obey) about two weeks
before because my baby measured so small
although I was 37 wks at the
time. So I wasn't really too concerned about
rushing to the hospital.
But at 2:30 I called my mom and told her
I didn't think she should make
any stops after work. My contractions at
this point were about every
7min very regular...not unbearable but I
could feel them. At this time I
was frustrated at not being able to reach
my "hubby" as he was 400mi
away for work. My daughter was very excited
she knew somthing was going
on..knew there would be a baby...but was
still confused as to how it was
going to get here.
At about 4:30 we called a cab to get
me to the hospital. When I arrived
there I was only 2cm dilated and 25% efaced.My
water had not broke and
my contractions were not registering on
there machines. Needless to say
the docs thought it was a false alarm.I
on the other hand knew this to
be the real thing, and after much pleading
they decided to humor me. The
doctors sent me to walk the hallways for
an hour to see if it would
progress my labor any.
At 6:30 I practically crawled back
to the room as I couldn't stand. The
contractions were so close and so intense
I thought surely I must be
dying. I climbed back on my bed and waited
for the doctor to return.
Wasn't he surprised to find me 7cm dilated
and 100% efaced. As he was
checking me we suddenly lost the baby's
heart rate. I was quickly hooked
to oxygen and wheeled out to a birthing
room.
At about 7:15 the nurse decided to
start filling out my paperwork and
the doctor went to call my own doctor. They
thought they at least had a
couple more hours. Surprise again...at around
7:35 I informed them I
needed to push.I was checked and told it
was alright to begin. I gave 2
good pushes and my water broke...about another
10-15 min and my sons
head had been delivered. I was told to keep
pushing..they were unable to
unwrap the cord from his neck without delivering
his body. So I pushed
and I tore...bad. It seemed like forever
to hear that first wail..but it
is the best sound i've ever heard.
They proceeded to stitch me for the
next 1 1/2hrs. It seemed like
forever. But finally I held my beautiful
son...and had some dinner.
Hospital food or any food has ever tasted
as good as it did that night.
Connor is now 10 mos old driving his
mommy and daddy batty and
anxiously awaiting the arrival of a new
baby.
